Has anyone got any experience of taking clonidine orally for neuropathic pain? I had an appointment with a pain specialist who has said that he has seen good results with it and gave me a prescription, 50 mcg 3 times a day. I take 500mg of Lyrica a day and 50mg of nortryptiline plus baclofen, i'm not keen to increase these.
One of my concerns is that clonidine decreases the blood pressure, mine usually runs at about 105-115/60-70 ish, not much room to reduce!
Would be grateful for any advice or feedback
Thanks

I was on it a few years ago while I was getting off all my other meds (oxycontin, methadone, neurontin, etc.). I've had high blood pressure ever since my injury, so I'm supposed to be on something for it, but I decided to get off everything. I was using a once/week patch form of Clonidine, but I was on too many other things to know which was doing what.
I'm to start taking something again for high blood pressure in a couple of weeks, and it will probably be Clonidine. I'll give you my feedback then. I wish I had something of use to tell you.
I'm curious too, what people's responses are to trying it.

I am. We call it Rivotril but it is clonazepam. I take 4 mg at night but the pain specialist said I could take 8 mg. I started out with 1,5mg and increased to 2 mg and then to 3 and 4 but stopped because it took my nerve pain. I use a temgesic patch 5mg too and change once a week. It did not change my blood pressure.
When you write mcg does that mean milligram or microgram. We write it different mg and µg

Hi, Thank you for your replies. I look forward to hearing how you get on cljanney.
Woman from Europe, mcg is micrograms, sorry! Clonidine is not the same drug as clonazepam.
Any one else have any experience?

Clonazepam is an epileptic medication we use for nerve pain here but at least I know now what mcg is. I have been wondering before.
