Hi all,
I was wondering if anybody has had any experience with high triglycerides as a cause of peripheral neuropathy (PN)?
I have been suffering with worsening painful PN in my feet for over 5 years. I have been treating the pain with Neurontin (3600 mg /day) and Nortryptoline (30 mg/day) for the last year and it has brought some relief. I have undergone practically every test my neurologist could think of but with no diagnosis.
I recently went for a physical and everything was normal. My GP said I am healthy (good diet and I exercise), however, my triglycerides were very high (350). The GP checked in with my neurologist who said there have been cases where triglycerides cause PN.
I did a Google search and found a post dated May 12, 1997 regarding triglycerides as a possible cause of PN (http://www.medhelp.org/forums/neuro/archive/451.html).
I have experienced the almost exact set of circumstances described in the post; PN in my feet and high triglycerides and everything else is normal. I have just started treatment for the triglycerides at 500 mg Niaspan per day and I am guardedly hopeful that this may help the PN in my feet.
I was wondering if anybody else has had experience with this?
thanks in advance,
Daktron
