If true, this is sad news because the Pioneer Kuro (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B001AAPEDC/leoville0f-20) is one of the best plasmas on the planet. According to PC mag (http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2340586,00.asp), Pioneer Corp. is evaluating their business model in order to increase efficiencies of operation. It certainly looks like Pioneer is getting out of the TV business.

No, its just that they wont manufacture any more plasma panels, they will be using Panasonic panels (http://gizmodo.com/383593/confirmed-panasonic-and-pioneer-teaming-up-for-plasma-panels).

I don't think they will abandon their Plasma line. I really hope they don't.

Here is an article from the Canadian Press (http://www.google.com/hostednews/canadianpress/article/ALeqM5hCDp__9zr78VfCNds0DWbemgg6Hg) where Pioneer is forecasting a 846 million Dollar net loss, for this year. According to the article (getting out of the TV business) this is a strategic move by the Japanese company due to the economic downturn.

LCD TVs do seem to have the lion's share of the market. However, plasmas TVs, inch for inch are generally less expensive especially in larger sizes, and they have better blacks levels, better off access performance, where LCDs usually have more of a problem in this area. Make no mistake, plasma TVs are not going away.

It is a fait accompli, Pioneer (http://techguylabs.com/radio/ShowNotes/Show535#toc2) will be getting out of the TV business by March, 2010.

Now Vizio (http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105-10161650-1.html) is killing their line of plasma TVs.

I just bought a Pioneer 60" Kuro pdp-6020 last week just before the announcement that Pioneer was going to discontinue making Plasma TV's. That’s just my luck; they say they will continue honoring the warranty though. Anyway I have no regrets I love the TV.

I think you made a good decision to purchase the Pioneer Kuro before they are all gone, or no longer available. As long as you can dim the lights I believe plasma TVs give you the best home theater experience.

Thanks NorthQuad, so far I have been real pleased with the plasma TV. I can't quit playing with the adjustments and it’s making my wife real mad. The speakers are Monitor Audio 9i. I also have two matching inwall speakers for my surrounds and two in the back for the back surround.

Thanks, I hope I made the right decision. The screen is a bit reflective over an LCD as you can see from the camera flash. I usually watch at night and the screen reflection isn't bad although watching during the day with the curtains open and lights on it does show reflection but you have to be looking for it to see it.

I would not have any buyers remorse over this purchase. According to Robert Heron of PC mag (http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2325569,00.asp), "the Pioneer Kuro technology is two or three years ahead of anybody else."

nice tv but i like the speakers better.:p for hometheater no tv can beat the experience of a huge projector screen if you have the space for it. i have monitor audio as well for speakers... awesome speakers and best bang for the buck!;)

I agree. You can't beat plasma for picture quality. The new LCD's at 240hz come close but no match. In the near future LCD are going to be replaced by LED TV and OLED TV's.

I agree, the Monitor Audio speakers are nice. I had Boston Acoustic speakers before the Monitors and found there is a big difference. The Boston's were good but they don't compare with the Monitors.

I can't tell y'all how much I like the Pioneer Plasma. It seems the more I watch it the better the picture gets. My Dad just bought a Samsung LCD but to me it doesn’t compare with the Pioneer although it is half the price of the Pioneer.

Nice to see that you were already rocking the plasme world since 2003. Most of us just found out that we could afford them last year.

Nice TV you got there buddy
