Does anyone own a DVR Recorder that records to a hard drive? Any recomendations on which ones to purchase.

I am not interested in TIVO or the DVR recorders from Direct TV or Dish Network.

I've had direct tv for about 2 years. The plan I have comes with a DVR the DR cost $99.00 a month and depending on what channel plan you select a group of 3 channels such as HBO, Showtime and Cimemax is an additional 33.00 which gives more channels than 3I could ever watch. This plan is offered by my phone carrier Verizon. Being Homebound this is a very good services for me.

Popcorn Hour (http://www.popcornhour.com/onlinestore/) is fairly popular.

Sonic Blue had one a few years ago.
Apple has AppleTV http://www.apple.com/appletv/

There is also a device called a Pinnacle Video Transfer that will allow tv recording with out a computer. For example tv + PVT + iPod = watching tv while standing in line or commuting on the train.

Some people have described it as ordering television programs like a drive threw with out the fry's and screwed up drink order.

I use the Bright House DVR which is also the cable box. Whatever I want to keep permanently, I put it on DVD using my DVD recorder.

windows media center works fine as a dvr and records shows right to your hd or ext hd . you can watch one channel and record another , do all the skip time formatting too.
all you need is cheap tv tuner card , or a usb input coonector for under $30
