I'm wondering if anyone else here who has a thoracic-level injury has pain when they cough or sneeze.

I've had a cold this week and my chest and back hurt so bad from coughing, I am at my wit's end.

I don't get pain when I sneeze or cough but my pain has increased somewhat these past few months and i'm not sure why.

I hope your cold has past and that your pain has gone with it too.

No I don't Danine. Is this a new thing for you when you cough and sneeze? Maybe you should see a doctor if it is. It doesn't sound right.

Thanks Knight and Keps. The cold has improved but I'm still having bouts of coughing and the pain waxes and wanes. I have chronic pain in my mid-back that wraps around my ribcage, but coughing/sneezing always makes it worse. I guess the pain is chronic because I have a number of herniated discs in that area in addition to the SCI at T8-9. I was just curious if others have this kind of pain too.

Again, thanks for your replys.

I hope you shake this cough/cold off very soon, especially as it's hurting so much to cough and sneeze.
Hmm, I wouldn't be surprised if having herniated discs had something to do with it. I wouldn't think "just" having an sci would.

Are you on any medications for the pain at your injury site? Gabapentin is used for this type of pain.Ask your Dr.

I do take Gabapentin along with other med's to help control the pain. The med's take the edge off, but the pain never goes away completely.

Sometimes it gets so bad that it hurts to take a deep breath. Sometimes I feel like I have a boa constrictor wrapped around my chest. And, like I said earlier, coughing/sneezing makes it much worse.

it sounds more like you have something in you lungs. Case of 'Rollers'Pneumonia
get a Z pack.

Never heard of "rollers pneumonia" but I have had the pneumonia vaccine and I've been to see my doctor who said I have a virus and do not need antibiotics right now.

It's interesting to me that others with thoracic injuries don't have this kind of pain. I guess I was expecting a lot of people to say that they experience this too. So, I'm beginning to think that it has more to do with my osteoarthritis than with the SCI.

Thanks for your reply.
