Anyone seen the new issue yet? I got it in the mail -- it said "sex, wheels and relationships" and I was all excited. Then I opened it and saw that out of five or six couples they write about, zero were disabled female/able-bodied male. Every single one was the other way around. And they also had an article about physical sexual pleasure -- all from/for the male perspective (I can't believe how much literature there is out there concerning erections, relative to the one that talkabout female dis sexuality). I was a little crushed. I don't consider NM to be "the" mag for chair users, but still. I mean, in all that magazine space, you couldn't include *one* disabled female??

I wonder if it has something to do with how society views women in general: we are pressured to be body-perfect, so perhaps the idea of a female gimp having sex is more unappealing. I know that many male gimps will only date able-bodied women. And women's sexuality in general is not given as much attention and importance as men's; I'm sure that some of this attitude creeps into the disabled community.

I myself have found literature here and there that deals with women's sexuality post-disability, so it is not necessarily new information I'm looking for, but simple representation. I have found some, but in no where near the same amounts as I have seen about male sexuality post-disability.

That's pretty lame. You should write them with what you've posted here. Most SCIs are male, but even if NM was just SCI and not all mobility disabilities, there's no excuse for not including articles about female sexuality in an issue devoted to "Sex, Wheels and Relationships". Lame, lame, lame.

Agree with Laurielou. I'm letting my subscription lapse because I find the content does not speak to me. I was suprised to receive this issue and only skimmed it but found myself thinking the same thing.

maybe it was something innocent like that the writer couldnt find a female willing to discuss sex for the story. Be interesting to hear what they say if you let them know how you feel

i agree. i think it is partially bc 80% of the sci population is male. i have some articles on my swite, see http://www.mobilewomen.org/mobilesex.phpc (main articles and more under "articles".
what aspects are you guys interested in?

True, but New Mobility isn't just geared toward the SCI community. I think this is a case of the boys' club ignoring women's issues because of self-absorbed attitudes.

Thumbs up for posting the links!

i just read the issue, i thought it was great. heck i remember when ellen stohl[i think] was on the cover nude and pregnant, there werent many sci guys w/ ab chicks in that one.

the main couple, their story was kind of tough. basically a sexless marriage, that is tough. sexuality is a huge part of a relationship and marriage. i would like to see a followup on that one in a few years. hope it works out.

also, the cover was awesome, beautifully done.

GREAT ISSUE.

I have to agree with this, It truly did speak of alot of the problems I have, I gave it to my wife last night to read. Maybe the next issue will speak of the problem of the female side, I truly do see where you ladies are coming from! :)

Duge, that's great! It's just unfortunate they didn't attempt to address the issues of women with disabilities. If they had called that issue "The Men's Side of Things" then one could understand and expect another issue to deal with "The Women's Side of Things." As it is, I wouldn't hold my breath for an issue devoted to female sexuality.

Scorpion, I totaly agree! it should have been addressed that way, Mybe they will see that and do another issue devoted to the female side of sex and being disabled. Wonder how to get the message to them?

I got the issue, but haven't read it yet. I'm about three issues behind, lol. I'm not renewing my subscription because I have no time to read them and really only enjoyed a few bits of each one anyway. The money saved will go towards face cream to make me ageless.

I just read the first post in this thread and thought this must be the month for sci sex issues. The sci forum at the Univ. of Washington next week is going to be on "sex and sexuality" after sci. And we're encouraged to bring our partner with. Could be either an empty room, or a really interesting evening:). Think I'll go early:D

i didn't even know there were magazines directed to people in wheelchairs! its kind of expensive to subscribe, so i'm going to hold off. are there any other magazines?
as far as your original post. after my accident, i went to alegent in omaha. they said they rarely have women with sci, and haven't had one for years before me. i thought that was crazy. they also couldn't find much info helping me deal with my new sexuality. it was all directed towards men.

Sorry to be real blunt but blame yourselves.

I read male threads on here every day, some in very clear detail about their sexual lives, yet I can't recall any woman on here discussing their sexuality, so how does that help newly injured women (or their AB men) looking for answers on this site? let alone a mag?

you want more articles and understanding about SCI and the female anatomy, discuss it openly then. there's now a female forum that isnt even visible to everyone and most new users probably don't know it exists. I use this site as an example because its within the SCI community while also displaying the jest of concerns with our health and anatomy. You can ask every male here to give a detailed account of their last sexual encounter post sci, and they can do it easily, in depth, without a care in the world.

I got no problems talking about erection, ejaculation or oral sex. how about yall?

by all means throw down some stories. heck I suffer from this lame injury and I don't even know how it works for women. How is an AB man supposed to know?

There are plenty, probably less in the time you've been here because you arrived in an era when many threads about female sexuality got derailed by a certain member telling the ladies how he could help if only he were AB and didn't have damn neuro pain and spasms. Those threads soon became arguments about beauties and virgins rather than positions and sensation.

If it wasn't him there was always someone willing to offer a tongue, finger or cock. Probably not what the ladies were looking for, so many stopped posting.

I'm sure there are plenty of threads in Women Only.

Yep, that's what happened. Discussions about female sexuality (not porn) make some men uncomfortable and when men feel uncomfortable they start with the crude jokes and vulgar comments and the maturity level deteriorates. They ended up locked and moved and women shied away. A couple of years ago, I joined a group of about 7 women who decided to take our discussions to PM so I'm glad to finally have the womens forum. Not to paint all men as cads, there are a handful of mature guys here whom I wouldn't mind having access to the womens forum.
