I just happened to run across this report while browsing for veterans issues. It'a a report by the US Dept of Justice on the conditions found in a Veterans Nursing Home in Alabama:

http://www.usdoj.gov/crt/split/documents/WFGreen_findlet_12-18-08.pdf

It came just out December 18 and identifies many complaints in detail on the care and welfare of Veteran patients in that home, W.F. Green.

I urge all of you to research the nursing homes in your areas before considering them when and if you are no longer able to take care of yourself. This particular report made me sick to my stomach.

I read the entire report. No wonder you are sick. I am too. This is no way to treat human beings. They should prosecute the people responsible for such atrocities. I think a person would get better care if they were in prison rather than nursing homes like this. Disgusting and inhumane.

I recently came off a week's respite care in my local VA hospital's nursing home. I had no problems whatsoever and actuality enjoyed my week there. Also, it gave my wife time for herself and get her internal batteries recharged. I plan to go for another week this spring,

When we get to the point that home care/living becomes no longer feasible, perhaps we should to roll into a federal bank and announce a robbery. Of course we'd be quickly nabbed, put on trial, found guilty and sentenced to one of those posh federal prisons replete with 'round the clock assistance, health care and recreation. Maybe, our loved ones would visit, too. Not a bad way to spend your final days.

That was my thought exactly biker. I think they even get dental care in prison. I think the Feds would catch on pretty quick though after about the first ten or so wheelin' geezers showed up with the same thing in mind.

Not all of the nursing homes are like the one in QV's document for sure, but if there are any at all its too many. No one deserves to be treated the ways that those people were treated.
