View Full Version : IPOD Touch Vs Palm TX
I have been using Palm products for nearly ten years but am not getting disgusted with their customer service. I just had a problem with the touch screen which had been repaired several times under warranty and now it is broken again and they want $145 to fix it. My question is would I be better off buying a IPOD touch and forgetting about Palm Products? I have a large contact list and calendar appointments in my Palm device. Is there some way to transfer the data to an IPOD device? I didn't see anything in their advertising or specifications that provide for this. Also the Palm has a capability for excel spreadsheets, Word and Powerpoint. Is there anything available as an add on to enable the IPOD to provide these features? I am sure others have thought about this. Any ideas?

I'm a quad with no use of my fingers and my BlackBerry Storm is absolutely wonderful. You can even get free voice recognition apps.
The Palm Pre (http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/08/the-palm-pre/), looks pretty slick. The Wall Street Journal likes it and Palm stock is up 38%!

Better off with a Palm.
It is my understanding that Palm was on the way out, but they did get one hundred million dollars which may be all about the new Palm Pre. The pedigree is interesting for this smart phone because they have some of the developers of the iPhone working on the Palm Pre. I would strongly recommend you get this smart phone in your hands before buying one.

I have an iPod Touch...I love it, but it has it's limitations. Calendar support for windows is pretty lousy. There is a really nice app called Airshare that you can buy to view word and excel (among orher) files, but I don't believe there is any way to edit them.
If those are critical tools for you, ya might skip it. If you can live without 'email, it is a georgeous device.

p.s. if I wanted to be stuck with an expensive monthly bill for two years, I would have gone with an iPhone. My iPod is paid for.
Is it not possible to get your email through your wifi connection or does it not have a email app?

Oh yes, email is definitely supported, and is very nice. I use it to monitor my work email (which uses exchange) from home. Also supports gmail and any other POP3 compliant email accounts.
