Million dollar grant earmarked for brain injury research
Almost $2 million has been earmarked to boost research into brain injuries.
The Victorian Trauma Foundation's grant is its largest and will go to Melbourne's Alfred Hospital to develop clinical procedures for managing severe brain injuries.
The foundation's CEO Joanne Booth hopes the grant will lead to a substantial improvement in patient recovery.
"Every five to six days within Victoria, someone suffers a very severe head injury as a result of a transport accident," Ms Booth said.
"And despite the best management that these people receive within our hospitals, there is a very high risk that the people suffering the injuries may die or suffer severe disability."
