Louis Ignarro, Ph.D., Nobel Laureate in Medicine, serves as the Jerome J. Bezler, M.D. Distinguished Professor of Pharmacology in the Department of Molecular and Medical Pharmacology at the UCLA School of Medicine. He has been at the UCLA School of Medicine since 1985 as a Professor, Acting Chairman and Assistant Dean.

Dr. Ignarro has received countless awards for his work in medicine and as a professor, including the Nobel Prize for Medicine or Physiology in 1998. He is also an active participant in numerous science/medical associations including the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, National Academy of Sciences, American Society of Hematology, American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics. He is founder and editor-in-chief of "Nitric Oxide" Biology and Chemistry (Academic Press).

Among his special awards are the Roussel Uclaf Prize for Cell Communication and Signaling, the CIBA Award for Hypertension Research, the Honoris Causa Doctorate Degree from the University of Buenos Aires, Republic of Argentina and the Basic Research Prize of the American Heart Association. Dr. Ignarro is a member of the Scientific Advisory Boards of the French pharmaceutical company, NicOx, S.A. He received a B.S. in Pharmacy from Columbia University in New York and his Ph.D. in Pharmacology from the University of Minnesota.
