St. Francis distributes $736,795 in community
Foundation elects new chairman of board

The St. Francis Medical Center Foundation announced the distribution of $736,795 toward health care programs and services in the community at its annual trustee luncheon meeting on Thursday.

The foundation also elected Jerry Huismann as chairman; Mark Stelk, vice chairman; and Joanne Holmes, secretary/treasurer. New board members include Dave Faimon, Ken Gnadt, Brian Hamilton, Sally Shields and Roger Steele.

New trustee members include Tammy Allen, Marlan Ferguson, Brian Hamilton, Steve Joel, Steve Kunzman, Sally Shields and Roger Steele.

Barbara Georgi, foundation vice president, said community contributions and grant awards supported such projects as Wellness Works/Pour Su Salud, a community health education and wellness center at Conestoga Mall; the Student Wellness Center at Grand Island Senior High; and the Third City Community Clinic.

Other projects supported by the foundation include the Third City Community Clinic, Tri-Cities Safe Kids Coalition, Parish Nurse Network, Serenity House for young women recovering from substance abuse, Doula Connection for birthing assistance, Healthy Starts prenatal training for at-risk mothers, Think First spinal cord and head injury prevention program and abstinence education to prevent teen pregnancy.
