Nepalese journalist on fundraising mission for paralyzed people

??DHAKA, July 16 (Xinhuanet) -- Kanak Mani Dixit, founder of the Nepal Spinal Injury Rehabilitation Center, is now here on a mission to raise funds for paralyzed people.

??Dixit, who arrived in Dhaka on Saturday from Nepal driving his Volkswagen Beetle, told a press conference here Tuesday that Nepalis a mountainous country and incidents of falling from cliffs are rising that leave people paralyzed for spinal cord injuries.

??Dixit, also editor of Nepalese magazine Himal, set up the NepalSpinal Injury Rehab Center last April for the people paralyzed dueto spinal cord injuries after he himself had received similar injury in August 2000.

??During the press conference, Dixit, accompanied by his daughterand nephew, also narrated his experience of driving 1,200 kilometers from the Himalayan kingdom to Bangladesh.

??Volkswagen Club of Bangladesh, a club of Volkswagen owners, andthe Center for Rehabilitation of the Paralyzed extended their cooperation to the fund raising drive of Dixit in Bangladesh.

??Dixit will leave for Nepal on Thursday through the same route. Enditem
