every girl/ women wants to be or feel beautiful, right?
How can you girls handle this sci?
I like skirts and dresses! I can't wear them now..
Before my accident i was always in the sportschool to train my belly- muscles and legs.
I have a belly and i don't like this....:( I don't like my body anymore....
Can you accept your "new" body? What makes you feel beautiful?
Thanks!

I use shirts, dresses and high heel every time I feel for.

I've never been a person that likes to dress up. But whenever I have to, I'll wear a skirt and a dressy shirt - but no heels for me thank you!! - Usually, my dressy atire is a pair of slacks and a button down shirt.

I like a sleek suit w. a short jacket. It needs to be colorful, so it doesn't blend in with my chair. I have a red silk shantung, Italian designer suit, I got at a major discount. (From 1200 to 200!) This suit has sleeves that can go up to 3/4 length-good for the chair.
My suits are my armor. From public speaking, to funerals, to graduations. In one of them I feel put together and pretty.
I have a black one w/ a fuschia pinstripe that has exquisite tailoring details. Wish I could figure out a cover for my chair so black clothing would not disappear into the background.
I recejntly bought a tight pair of black pants, w/ a silver pinstripe. Found a little black sweater vest w/ faux layering...silver/black silk-looking sleeves, collar, hem and matching belt. With a short black leather jacket and black boots, it is an informal suit that makes me feel long n lean. Mom says it make me 6 foot tall LOL.
In summer, wrap dresses wrap dresses wrap dresses. Throw on a pair of sandals and a necklace and you're dressed. I used to wear sundresses all summer but got too old to always be so bare. That dress in my avatar is 10 years old, I probably wouldn't buy it today.

Are you overweight?
If you were active before no reason at your level not to be now.
get a basketball or tennis racquet.
I find a manicure made me feel "normal" after my initial injury.

I don't wear dresses anymore...can't find anything that looks good on me...my mid-section is too "thick" and I have "football" shoulders which doesn't quite look right in a dress...it sucks...:zombie:...I wear loose fitting shirts with dress pants at work because I have too...When I'm out of work, its jeans and big sweat shirts...

I've been wearing my own clothes to restore my self-esteem. I like jeans and combat boots. I like hoodies. After my case is finished, I want to cut my hair and color it the way I want it--spiked and highlighted. I feel it's very cathartic to cut my hair. Before my accident, I had it shaved most of the time. It also feels good just to be able to go in the bathroom, blast my favorite tunes and groom myself in the mirror.

I love turning up my music in the morning as I get ready for work. I also feel more attractive when my hair is done and a but some make up on. Another thing that makes me feel attractive is when my clothes fit well and are something I like.

No, not overweight...
But when you haven't belly- muscles it's not very tight anymore:(
It's difficult to find nice clothes.

Is there any para who don't have "football shoulders" here or big mucles in the arms? I do not care for those things. The nice thing is my overarms don't have "countess swing". I don't know what you call them, but I am sure you know what I mean.
I never use spelling check inside here in women only.

I feel too self conscious about my afo to wear shorts, dresses and skirts. People stare. I shouldn't really care, but *sigh* I do, especially because the majority then go on to ask "What's wrong with you?" or a variation of the question. At least in slacks or jeans, most people assume I have some sort of knee injury since I just end up dragging my right leg along.
What I miss the most are cute shoes. It's all but impossible to find cute shoes that fit a giant afo. Shoes for the summer like slingbacks or sandals are impossible since I have to have a back on the shoe.... Ahh what I've give to be able to wear tall, tall, sexy, sleak heels that cry "F*** ME" ;)
body shapers are a god send for the gut. i have the pouch too due to lack of ab muscles being tight enough. i hate it because the rest of me is slim, except my shoulders like many are talking about.
they make them that they slip right over and don't include the underwear part. they have kinds with boning in them and can snap or hook too. the hooks are a pain though. if you want to sit straighter, boning will help, but i never tried it yet. i'm not sure how well it would work on the skin. either way, they make sexy ones too so it'll give you that extra boost of "damn, i'm hot!"
right now i use my abdominal binder, but i sit crooked with my hip issues and it's bunched on the one side to the point that the binder is stuck all scrunched up.
getting your hair and nails done helps too, at least for me. i don't go out much during the week and i sit around in bum clothes, but the weekends it's different and it's sort of like a treat to dress nicer and do my hair and make up and people actually see it.
I wear what ever I want. dresses, skirts shorts, I dont care about the braces. I hate that Im limited on shoes. even before the braces though, I couldnt walk in heels.

What do you ladies do about your bellies? For the ones that have it. I don't want to find a way to cover it up. I wanna get rid of it. I'm a t5-6 level, so I have no tummy muscles. What can I do to tone my abs?

i use an ems unit but it didn't work wonders for me yet.

Kind of like those clear bra straps you can get.
I could wear skirts, even though I don't like my new legs, if I could figure out how to transfer out of my truck without showing something. lol Nothing like some stranger who keeps insiting to help you with your chair. You just want him to leave so you can transfer without worrying too much about the skirt riding up. Or maybe that's what he was hoping?

I found the perfect binder at Wal-Marts of all places. It is made of girdle material but has hard plastic up the sides so it don't curl up. It holds my big belly in and really makes a difference on what I look like in stretch pants. It helps me when I wear tight jeans.
I wish I could find those sandals that buckle up 2 or 3 times up past the ankle. I forgot what they are called. You know back in the Roman days.

I always change my hair [i really really like wigs, its so fun]
I always do my makeup- I LOVE Panacea's tips- http://www.youtube.com/user/panacea81
I love jeans that are tight in the thigh and flair out [but still have a little extra tummy room] and http://www.parisblues.com/ [the BEST]
I like showing of my arms, I like layering tank tops. Layering can camoflauge a belly.
ALSO- keep in mind- the ''maternity'' ''tummy concealing'' look is IN b/c everyone's gotten so fat.
I know whenever I go shopping, my little quad gut looks a lot better than the tummys of most AB ladies out there.
Play up your best features. NO ONE is perfectly happy with their body. ;D

I'm a beauty junkie. Whenever I feel "blah" I shop for new lip gloss or lipstick, I try to give myself manicure every week (because chipped nails are not sexy :p). I also love treating myself to a facial mask twice a week.:zombie:
I hate my quad belly too- with a passion. I tried wearing the abdominal binders before, but they messed up my skin really bad-not to mention the bunching :(. I just try wearing tops that aren't tight fitting, but still has a nice cut, so it doesn't look boxy on me.
I also like jeans and khakis that flair out-esp. if they have stretch in 'em. I shop at Old Navy lot because their clothes fit me pretty well.
As for shoes, I recently bought some simple Maryjane flats from Zappos.com that I just love. They are orthopedic with a velcro strap-kinda dorky, but you can't see it because the pants cover it. So they just look like I'm wearing flats:applaud:. I am all about comfort nowadays. I don't like the way a lot of orthopedic shoes look, but my feet swell up sometimes and I need a wide size and cushion.
Meagalon- I love Lauren Luke (Panacea). I've learned so much from her-esp. how to smoke out my eyes. Now it doesn't look like I got "punched in the eyes", as my hubby would say :wtf:.
i agree that it's important to take care of one's self and make an effort. there are lots of women out there who aren't happy on the inside and it shows bc they let themselves go. when you care about yourself and make an effort, whether it be by putting on a little make up, wearing a nice top, trying a new hairstyle - your confidence and beauty shows through.

I have found the most helpful thing to be dressing for my figure rather than obsessing about changing it or wishing I could comfortably wear the clothes of my preference. I am slim but look pregnant - what is worse is that three people in a short space of time have actually asked if I am! I am slim and have a hefty lordosis so I do look like I am about to imminently give birth, they had a point but it is still not nice to have your most disliked features pointed out to you!
I have found tops like this: http://www.goddiva.co.uk/product.php?productid=10066&cat=2 (http://www.goddiva.co.uk/product.php?productid=10066&cat=2)
to help and also knowing that not many people are 100% happy with their body.
P.S. does anyone know of a good binder? The ones I have tried do not seem to do anything.

To all of you ladies who are worrying about your newly found "football shoulders." From a guys perspective; be glad that you've got them, pushing your chair for the next 60 years requires you to have them. I'm a T-10 incomplete of 27 years, 6'5" tall with legs like toothpicks in comparison. I got sick about 5 months ago, I was diagnosed 2 days ago with Guillen Barre Syndrome, on the good side of remission. If I didn't have the massive upper body I developed over time, ( I was skinny at 24) for sure it would have started munching on my organs and killed me. Its nice to see a girl in a chair who looks like she takes care of herself,(with the knowledge that there are those who physically can't but want too) a tummy is part of the territory; big shoulders- so what! Your not using a chair because your tired of walking, your the same person you were before; move on and love yourself. The rest of the world understands, at least some of us do; we aren't holding it against you!!

yep, I have the belly problem also. I found a binder at Wal-Marts that works perfect after buying three or four that didn't work.

I sure will. It will take a few days. It is perfect because it don't ride up and it flattens by belly so I look so much better in jeans and shorts and dresses. It fit well under cloths. It only cost about 12$. I tried all the expensive one.

Cali, my camera isn't working but the name of my binder from Wal-Mart is Cupid. It's not very wide and came in a box. It has eight hooks like on a bra and four flexible thingy things (lol) to keep it from rolling up. It stays down and don't ride or roll up. It's made out of strong girdle material. I hope it helps.

I use to wear jeans when i was not fat ....But now i prefer wearing skirts with short tops.
