Paralysis Foundation
Hosting Fund-raiser
THE KENT WALDREP National Paralysis Foundation, an organization whose
mission is to find a cure for spinal cord injuries, has formed a
Northeast chapter in the name of Joey Testaverde. Testaverde, 19, is a
native Long Islander paralyzed in a swimming pool accident in 2002.
Based in Huntington, the Joe Testaverde Chapter of the National
Paralysis Foundation will work to raise awareness as well as funds
earmarked for research programs in the Northeast.
The chapter has assembled an advisory board whose members include former
baseball stars Yogi Berra and Bud Harrelson, TV newscaster Roseanna
Scotto, Msgr. Tom Hartman and Dr. Wise Young.
The chapter is hosting its first fund-raiser, a cocktail reception, on
May 18 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Yogi Berra Museum and Learning Center, on
the Montclair State University campus in New Jersey. Former major-league
baseball umpire Steve Palermo, who also has a spinal cord injury, will
be honored.
For more information about the fund-raiser, call the Northeast chapter
at 631-367-1985. To learn about the national organization, visit
