View Full Version : beta blockers + me = belly!

I've been on beta blockers for a few months now due to an increased heart rate, and I think they have caused me to gain some weight. I was taking an additional medication at the same time, and thought that the gain might have been from it, but it's stuck around despite my working out and eating better/less.

I have never had any difficulty with my weight, always been quite thin. It's been hard to gather information from people because of this, people just assume that I'm being overly dramatic - it is just a small amount of weight. I'm just worried that this little bit of gain (I don't have access to a scale, but I know that my stomach/hips/thighs are a little larger and I've had to get larger pants) could lead to continuing gain, etc.

Does anyone have any experience with a high heart rate, and reducing it through methods other than beta blockers? I'm interested in possibly trying acupuncture or something of the like. The cardiologists that I've spoken to so far have told me that because my only symptom is the heart rate that I'm not at risk and it's fine for me to just take the meds forever. I don't like this answer! I *am* seeking another cardiologist, but I'd love to know if anyone has any experience or insight into this.
