As posted in the Cure Forum.
The Push for the Cure fundraising committee is hosting a dinner in Denver March 26, 2002. The goal is to raise $300,000 or more towards SCI research.
Tables and donations, to attend the event, range from $250 for individuals up to $25,000 for corporate sponsors.
This is the first year of a soon to be annual event. If anyone would like additional details or information I can be reached at 1-800-965-3028 ext.644 or christopher.d.chappell@rssmb.com

Chris and any other fundraisers:
Can you keep a running file of the steps you take to get your fundraisers off the ground? Just open a Wordpad document in RTF format and include steps, sample letters, how to approach corrporate sponsors, insurance coverage for concerts or movies that could possibly flop, etc. I'll be happy to date or paginate the files once you're done. Many people want to help with these but don't know where to start or how much help they'll need. I'll post it to our Quest site as we gear up for the new legislative sessions. Thanks

I'd be happy to supply the information but I'm not as computer literate as you. Wordpad document? RTF format?

For those of you interested we have raised $200,000 towards our goal of $300,000. All monies will be invested in sci research within Craig hospital.
More good news. As of later this spring the activated macrophage trial currently available in Tel Aviv, Israel will be available at Craig hospital, Englewood CO. First domestic site, FDA approved. Also, the injury minimum/maximum timeline has been extended to 21 days. Good news for acute / subacute injuries.
Progress. Thoughts, comments, ideas? Want to make a contribution?
Thanks,
Chris http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/cool.gif
That is incredibly good news!! Hopefully Craig will begin a tradition of clinical trials. And if successful in the sub-acute timeframe, move to chronic.
Thanks for the news, Chris. It's a pretty good step I wasn't expecting. Makes my day!

WordPad is a very simple word processor program you find in all Windows for PCs systems. Look under Accessories near the bottom. RTF is Rich Text Format. Means you can send your document and it will remain formatted as you originally wrote it. I use Lotus for my office work so when I need to work with people who use MS Word I use WordPad because they can just channge the RTF to DOC and it will open. (NotePad is a smaller program that only handles small documents). I can also open Word DOCs now too because WindowsXP comes with MS Works and Office. We Loyus types have to send in a card to get our free Lotus ware.

As of yesterday we've exceeded our goal of $300,000 and are currently at $395,000 with about a month to go. The dinner is March 26th.
All of these dollars will be applied to research at Craig hospital. http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif

Chris,
First way to go. Sue had made a request back in October for the steps you took to put together this type of fundraiser. I know some people connected with NASA in Houston and think there would be quite a few people interested if I knew the particulars to pulling off this type of event.
Congratulations again,
Debbie

It's difficult to go into all the details but I'll at least try to give you some basic parameters.
1. Recruiting. Realize that you're going to need help. For example we've got a group of about 12 putting our event together.
2. Unified cause. You'll need a cause that the local community can get behind. Hospital, organization, person. Our's was pretty obvious - a hospital (Craig) specializing in sci.
3. How much? Pick a number of what your goal is. It might only be $5,000. That's ok, it's a start and every dollar counts. Our group felt collectively comfortable with our number - $300,000. Generally the group will rise to the goal as long as its realistic.
4. What type of event? A dinner? A walk? An auction? A car wash? A bbq? This is a very important decision that the group of volunteers needs to agree upon.
5. When?
6. Where?
7. Who do you want to attract? Who's the best candidate to give you money, donation of goods and services?
8. How much time do you want and can you invest, personally, in the event?
9. Will it be an annual event? One time?
10. Why? You have to be able to sell your idea, passionately.
If'd you'd like more specifics please ask.
Good luck,
