I must admit that I did not realize how far some people have gone in the area of brain stimulation and interfaces. Here is a story on Wired (interestingly Sep 2002 issue) which describes the work of William Dobelle who not only has built a vision stimulator but also set up a place in Lisbon where it can be transplanted to restore vision in blind people. The story is rivetting.
