View Full Version : need info on caregiving in Mass.

i have a friend who has family in Mass, his brother is in a chair and his mom is the caegiver. he gets SSI, the question is can she get some kind of pay for being caregiver, instead of them having to hire someone? it seems to me that when it gets to the point that you have to be a stay at home caregiver you should be compensated(sp) after all it would cost less to pay us then hire someone, and we know the paitent better.
i woul be greatful for any help. THANKS

I don't know the specifics of Mass. programs...each state is different and some will provide PCA pay for family caregivers (my state will) while others will not.

A good way to find out about programs like this in any location is to contact the local ILC. They should have counselors to help the person learn about programs, how to qualify, and often have attendant referral or training programs as well.
