I used to suffer from severe spinal pain when I was first injured in 94 but it went away w/ time. I had another back surgery in January. Some of my nerver endings were cut and I lost sensation on the right side of my upper back. After sitting all day, I'm experiencing nasty nerve pain. Itching, Burning, throbbing, etc... The last time I was in the hospital, my doctor put me on Neurotin for the pain. I ended up getting all of the side effects but was mostly ready to kill someone or myself. I took myself off of it after 4 crazy days. Has anyone else had a similar experience or know of any other medications that may help out? Thanks ~ John

Four days is hardly enough time to judge if Neurontin is working for you. Were you taking Neurontin or generic? I found that a certain generic put me in a state ready to kill myself or someone, also.
I hope you find something that works for you. Best of luck....

I know four days wasn't enough but I never want to feel like I did for those four days... It altered my mood so much! We all deal w/ shit @ times, but that medication made brushing my teeth feel like it was the end of the world. If I have to choose pain or feeling that way, i'll take the pain! It was the real stuff, not generic... Thanks SoFla

Have you tried TENS?
Other meds (imipramine, mexilitine, Lyricia, Tegretol)?
Acupuncture?
Self-hypnosis?
Are you seeing a physician who specializes in chronic neuropathic pain? Were these nerves cut intentionally or was this a surgical complication?

This was from the third surgery I had to remove a bursae sac that formed over my rib cage after breaking 2 ribs at the gym. I talked to you earlier about my flaps. I've been in bed so long that I didn't realize I had the spinal pain until I was able to sit again in June. I get the spinal pain when I lay down @ night after a full day of sitting. The surgery that cut the nerves was in January @ the same time I had my sacral flap done. When I'm just lying here, there's no pain. It comes after I sit up. I have a ton of questions for doctors but I'm not capable of getting out to get stuff taken care of right now. I'm not seeing a physician for chronic neuropathic pain. This is all new to me bc i've had so many recent surgeries. I don't think it was intentional but they had to go so deep to get to the route of the sac, it messed up the nerves. The wound was left open to heal and left a deep, about 3 in long by 1 inch wide indent in my back. When I had the bursae sac, I could feel the upper half and not the lower. It was right on the line of my paralysis. I talked to my dr about it. I'm dealing w/ so many other issues right now that I didn't pay too much attention to it. I sat up yesterday for an hour, then spent an hour and a half burning when i layed back down. Who knows! I'm begining to make myself sick by answering your questions bc I feel like all i'm doing is complaining. Right now my life's a lil rough, but the last 14 yrs i've done more than I ever thought was possible and had a good life...
