Dr. Young,

I was wondering if you knew of any doctors in or around WV that prescribes or is atleast knows about the 4-ap drug. I've been trying for 9 months to get it and I can't find a doctor that will prescribe it. I e-mailed collage pharmacy and they gave me 4 doctors in Ohio and 2 in Pa.. But none of them will take me or they don't prescribe it any more. I have Transverse Myelitis and I'm going on 2 years this month. My first MRI showed my leision from t2 to t7 the last one shows it at t4 to t7.. I know I have demylitating axons and I belive that 4-ap can help even if it's just alittle. I'm getting so frustrated my doctor wont precribe it because he dosen't know enough about it. But he wont read up on it either. What can I do I really want to try this. My doctor did agree to follow me on it blood test ect.. I hope you can help..

Thanks
Shana

You will probably just need to try more doctors. Have you tried any neurologists who take care of MS patients? They are often more likely to be knowledgeable about it. I will ask Dr. Young to look at your question, but it is unlikely that he would know individual physicians in that area.

There arent many neurologists in WV. Have you tried Marshall University in Huntington or West Virginia University? Those will be your best bet. You may want to consider making another post asking members around here about doctors who prescribe it for them (within an acceptable distance to you).

Shana,

I have heard of two doctors who, when they found out that there will be a FDA-approved sustained release version of the drug available by early 2009, have held off prescribing the compounding pharmacy version of the drug. I am not sure whether this is a general trend.

Wise.
