I have several bulging discs, degenerataive disease of the spine and really bad sciatica. Lately I've been getting terrible headaches depending on the position of my head and pains in the shoulders, particularly when lying down.

I have an essential tremor and have been seeing a neurologist for years. His main interest is movement disorders so he doesn't seem interested in my other condition. He sent me to a Spine Center and they told me that operations weren't possible because of the condition of my bones. I had a few shots in the spine, but only one worked for a few weeks; and the pain killers they gave me affected my mental abilities (couldn't read the clock or make change).

Who should be monitoring the state of my spine? Should I be seeing a neurologist? a rheumatologist? an orthopedic surgeon?

any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Either an orthopedic spine specialist or a neurosurgeon who specializes in spinal surgery. Before having any surgery, get an opinion from both. You may do better at a large teaching hospital than at a community spine clinic.
