T-10 Para going on 11 years. Past 5 years I have been dealing with alot of sharp pain in the upper left side of my abdomen. Feels like spastic pain and feels like it shoots from front to back.

I can sometimes aggressively massage about 3 inches below my left rib cage and the pain will subside for a while.

Anybody experience anything simular and what meds if any were use to help.

Years ago my Dr. prescribed Amitriptylene,, but it totally drugs me out. My wife calls them the "I don't give a damn" pills because when I am on them I do not care for anything or anybody,,,, not good in a relationship.

Are you talking about "lightening" pains, like a sudden electrical shock? Those are one of the nastier versions of neuro pain and challenging to treat. You say massage can help. The only reports I remember where people said massage helped neuro pain (and I'm suspecting it's neuro since your dr subscribed what he did) is neuropathic muscle pain. In those cases a deep, pressing massage without rubbing helps sometimes. That stretches the muscle spindle (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muscle_spindle), which seems to be what provides the relief.

David, yes, not really a massage but just pushing deep and hard in the area of the pain. It main occurs on the left side just below my rib cage and right at my sensation level. Shoots all the way to my back..... I don't like it.

I have pain on my right side in the same area but it is not the same, more of a dull constant pain,,,, no gall bladder so I know that isn't it.
