Leon Thal, M.D., a professor of neurosciences at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) School of Medicine, and a national expert on early-stage memory loss and Alzheimer's disease, is available for interviews regarding Charlton Heston's announcement that he may have signs of early Alzheimer's.
Dr. Thal can discuss early-stage memory loss, signs of Alzheimer's disease, the range of interventions, and the types of clinical trials now available in the US.
Dr. Thal is director of the national, multi-center Alzheimer's Disease Cooperative Study, which was recently funded by the National Institute on Aging for $54 million. He is chair of the UCSD Department of Neurosciences, which has been named the top neurosciences program in the US by the National Academy of Sciences, and head of the UCSD Alzheimer's Disease Research Center.
