I talked to my orthopedic surgeon. He told me I need a hip replacement because I tore my labrum or labral. He has messy handwriting. Anyways my hip is basically dislocated because the muscles and tendons are not strong enough anymore to keep it in place. I was told to stop therapy and not to stand. They want to put a metal hip and socket that wont pop out anymore. However he said I wont be able to bend down and tie my shoe and my range of motion would not be what it is now. He said I could return to therapy after my surgery. I am a lil skeptical about getting the surgery done. I don't want to lose the movements that I can still do. It is pretty important to me that I can tie my shoes and being able to bend over and pick up my son. I have a burning sensation in my hip due from the pain and my leg is always bent. I asked the dr if this would go away and he said no. he said that is from being paralyzed not from my bad hip. Those are the things that bother me and give me discomfort. So I really don't see the point in getting it fixed. Has anyone ever had their hip replaces post sci and how did it work out? Any suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks you

Be sure to discuss possible complications which could arise from infection. From what I understand, we are at greater risk of infection setting up in the hip replacement/adjacent bone due to repeated UTIs. It is not rampant, but it happens.
I don't know how this could better be avoided, but some types of replacements may have a lesser incidence of this potential complication than others. I'd at least ask.
I wish you the best Arod.

I know your insurance limits your options in care. Can you appeal to get a second opinion? The surgery may be the only or best option, but if it were me, I'd push for another doctor's view just to have peace of mind and know I explored all avenues.
If you can get a second opinion don't tell the second doctor what the first recommended. Compare what they say and why.
I'll do some checking about the infection rates for SCI patients versus general population in hip replacements. A family member is the one who first told me about infection in the replacement parts. A friend relayed the same to me.
I don't envy what you're facing.

Thanks I appreciate the help. Well I had an mri and the hip is dislocated and the tendon that holds the hip is torn so it has to be a metal one because the other types will just dislocate again since the tendon wont hold it. I am just frustrated because I had been goin to sci-fit for almost a year and was walking with my kafos an a walker. I was doing so well and now its a setback. So I tried to get better and get out of this god damn chair and fucked myself up more. So frustrated it putting it lightly.
