We seem to have drawn a significant number of non-SCI pain relief seekers in the other thread, and I have a feeling that it is from a search similar to "Lyrica Withdrawl" or quitting Lyrica, so I thought I would start a thread more focused on pain relating to spinal cord injuries.
I started Lyrica a few days ago. Not long enough to be dealing with the full on side effects, but long enough to notice that all the pains I associated with hypersensitivity have been drastically reduced.
By hypersensitivity, I mean mostly my legs. Something brushing against them would cause immense pain. Going to bed at night, the same type of pain would be piercing for about an hour before I could sleep.
Immediately after starting Lyrica, these pains are muted. Some to the point of being gone, others just far more manageable. For the last several nights, I have been able to go to sleep without the leg pain flaring up.
Side effects. My eyes feel a bit blurry, but it is also allergy season here. The biggest that I've noticed is that I don't feel tired. If I go to bed, I sleep, but I don't feel the need to go to bed. I was up at 3:00 AM, and simply decided that I should be in bed, sleepy or not.
If you are thinking of taking Lyrica, you should probably read this thread (http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/showthread.php?t=52496), but I really think that thread has been taken over by people having negative effects from this medication or it doing nothing for them.
I held off trying this medication for a couple of years because of the reported side effects, but so far I am glad I'm giving it a try.
