fe's weight gain and swelling and joint pain is most likely caused by the lyrica she had been taking. First it was the weight gain but we really did not apy to much attention to it but when all of the sudden her ankles, hands and knees started swelling up I was very concerned.

I would really like to talk to someone who has had this problem and has any info to when the swelling will go down after quitting the lyrica and any other things that would be helpful. My email is in public so feel free to use it.

Thank you

I had both on Lyrica, swelling and gained about 40 pounds on it. I finally went off it after my endo decided that it was causing me to have to increase my diabetes meds.
I was on 600 mg a day (200 mg 3 times a day), and it does work for the nerve pain, but as I said the weight gain was too much and the pitting edema wouldn't go away , even with adding water pills to the mix.
I went off it and the weight dropped, and so did the pitting edema.
I tried Topomax and had awful nausea and lost my appetite completely with that, and now Cymbalta and a lower dose of Lyrica. So far, no weight gain, but the edema is back, but at least it's not pitting at the moment.

i had an amazing weight gain while on lyrica and a few other insane things also happen. i have not been even able to actually GAIN weight at all since my cord got damaged in 03. we are thinking its the sympathetic part of my damage? but for some insane reason, despite being able to gain NOTHING by eating many meals and high calorie stuff during a normal day, only while ON lyrica i went from 100 lbs up to 124 after just being on lyrica for only a few weeks.

this crap also gave me very bizzarre vision problems. i had an up and down type of double vision occur, not the normal side to side type? my normal gait was also heavily affected too(felt like i had just consumed a six pack or something)but the worst thing was what it did to my kidneys. i already had larger than normal kidneys due to polycystic kidney disease but this stuff made them both swell up so badly that my right one actually popped out of my back and has been residing right alongside my ribcage and partially under it now for about two years. tho the major side effects and the weight gain went away once i got the heck off the lyrica, that kidney has never moved back. this med is the worst one i ever tried for my pain, side effect wise. the sad thing here is it also the only med that actually also worked for me on my central pain and RSD pain. it also took out the swelling i had in my RSD knee and also the 102 degree heat it had been generating for a couple years, constantly. now that knee is colder than normal instead of hotter than normal.

it seems from others experiences either you have a really great response or you are hit with ungodly side effects with it. if it is causing that much side effect issues,i would most definitely go off it. its just such a new med still and who the heck knows what it is actually doing that will come out down the road kinda like vioxx did? i did manage to find some research studies they were doing on lyrica when i had my time with it a couple years ago and was just looking up generic side effect info on it. the effects on the eyes and also the creatinine too,so i am thinking this med does affect the kidneys in some more profound ways than some other meds too? i do know this med IS metabolized extensively within the kidneys.

this is one med i really wished i could have stayed on tho as it did really help with alot of my worst most hard to treat types of pain syndromes. marcia
