Click here (http://people.mozilla.com/~beltzner/overview-of-firefox3.swf) to view a screencast of new features in Firefox 3.
It covers the AwesomeBar, site identities, malware protection, and the improved add-ons window.
Firefox 3 is awesome and the final version will be available soon. The second release candidate is available here (http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-rc.html) for the impatient. (Just know that not all Add-ons are currently supported.)

I installed it weeks ago and ranted about it here. Nobody responded.

I tried release candidate one but it didn't work with my Google toolbar add-on and I used that to fill in forms automatically all the time so I uninstalled it. I am looking forward to installing the complete version as soon as it's available.

rybread,
Firefox has a number of form-filling extensions available if you're willing to temporarily do without your Google Toolbar.

My Firefox I have now is all set up custom like. And I use the search function from their constantly, at least eight or nine times a day. It will be out soon. I have no problems waiting a couple of weeks.

I had but the beta version on my daughter's lap top, but removed it yesterday. She was having trouble with gmail chat, and I tried the fixes recommended to no avail. Stepping it back fixed the issues.
I will try again soon.

Firefox is the best browser I ever had.
I really like his add-ons (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/)
After a fresh windows XP installation , Firefox is first on the list.
Those are 13 must have firefox add-ons (http://www.download.com/8301-2007_4-9971424-12.html?tag=bubbl_1) in cnet opinion. I don't find all those useful, but you can choice what you need, or build your own.
I just got Firefox 3. Not looked at a lot of what it can do, but I like the ability to edit bookmarks more easily.
And cypresss - thanks for the link. I've just checked it out and I am excited about trying the FoxyTunes add-on later. :)
I get fed up having to bring up my winamp every time I want to skip or change tracks.

I have been using Firefox 3 since Tuesday and think that it is the best browser yet. It doesn't seem that different from Firefox 2 except that is snappier. But, as I use it more, I am appreciating the differences:
• The arrow keys for navigation are different and intuitively better, in my opinion. Don't know why but the sizes of the arrows are appropriate (backward is the largest, forward is medium size, and list of URL's that you have just traversed is a downward arrow).
• The URL address bar has a drop down bar that gives a list of sites based on sites that you have visited, bookmarked, and tagged. It is amazing that it seems homed in to all the sites that I want to go visit. If you type in a partial word, i.e. Ru might give you all the sites on Russert that you have just visited. It is uncanny.
• Bookmarking is a cinch. Each address has a star. If you click the star, it is stored. If you double-click the star, it asks you where you want to store it.
• Better security. If the browser detects signs that you have stumbled onto a phishing site or some other suspicious activity, it pops up warning box which gives a button named "Get me out of here"... If you click the icon next to the URL address, it tells you whether you have visited that particular page before, whether it is storing cookies on your browser, and whether you have stored any passwords for the web site.
• Firefox 3 has something called a Most Visited item on the bookmark bar but I was not able to get it to work on my Mac.
Wise.

It turns out that my perception of Firefox 3's snappiness is not just a slight speed bump and fancier interface but a major overhaul of the graphic engine that runs Firefox 3 on the Mac. According to the following post, the changes are earthshaking and particularly for people using Firefox on the Mac.
http://boomswaggerboom.wordpress.com/2008/06/10/firefox-3-for-mac-os-x-under-the-hood/
First, Firefox has moved away from Carbon which was originally provided by Apple to help migration to OSX to Cocoa which uses the native functions of OSX. All future Mac applications will be using Cocoa.
Second, Firefox used the Gecko 1.9 engine which is now not only Cocoa based but uses its own custom buttons (which does not use OSX Cocoa forms but does use Apple Aqua forms it for better cross-platform compatibility and incidentally brings more Mac-like appearance of Firefox when used on Windows).
Third, by using Cocoa, Firefox has implemented many new Mac OSX features including: transparent windows, unified tool bars, and alert service. Instead of using Quickdraw, Gecko 1.9 now uses CoreGraphics which takes advantage of hardware acceleration and ATSUI which improves text kerning and better glyph clustering, which is particularly beneficial for languages using exotic combining marks.
Wise.

I also REALLY love the new FF3.
While tinkering, I just can't leave well enough alone. I have created a problem for myself.
Somehow in the last day I flipped a "switch" or stoped a popup or just have messed it up and now I am unable to save any new bookmark locations.
Any suggestions? I have uninstalled and reloaded FF3 and I have also reloaded my FoxMarks, as well as reinstalling it.
The new FireFox3 has crashed on me a lot when I have several large spreadsheets open and quite a few pages open to view.
The report being generated is that it "hangs" ... hoping for a fix in the near future. William
