Why couldn't the simply make the software drag and drop oriented???

You want your current library in your PC? Drag and drop.
You want to import one library but not another? Drag and drop.

At what point did Apple abandon practicality?

I lost 7 FREAKING hours of music because I couldn't tell which option would let me save my current library, even though I THOUGHT I was exporting it to my laptop.

You're so lucky my alpine stereo is set for you APPLE. Your days are numbered.
I bet every other competitor's MP3 support software is easier than yours.

DIE SCUMBAGS!!!

I agree. Everybody gushes about Apple software being "intuitive". I've found the opposite to be the case, for iTunes anyway. Once I accidentally deleted the 'Artist' tag for a several hundred songs I ripped from CD, with just one errant click. I couldn't find any way to restore the settings. There's no undo, and cddb would fix it. I ended up re-ripping all the CDs just to get the artist settings right again.

NoDecaf,

I am not sure what happened but perhaps you are trying to make iTunes do what it was not originally designed to do. The original software was intended to work on only one library and not multiple libraries. On the Mac, iTunes by default goes to the Music Folder in your account and you have one huge database of all your audio and video files. All the rest are just pointers to that database. When you create a playlist, it is just creating a series of pointers to that library. Please note that iPhoto is designed on the same principle.

However, people kept trying to make the software work on multiple libraries. On the Mac, the library defaults to what is contained in the music folder of your account. Yes, iTunes access a different library if you sign in on another account which creates its own Music folder. However, the release of iTunes 7 allowed people to open up different libraries. This was implemented by allowing you to hold your option key down when you initiate the program. This allows you to choose a library to open.

If you are managing multiple libraries, as you are suggesting, you should not be using iTunes to do so. There is a program called iTunes library manager (Source (http://lifehacker.com/software/itunes/download-of-the-day-libra-itunes-library-manager-140529.php)). Are you quite sure that you have wiped out your library? Are you sure that it no longer exists on your disk?

Finally, the reason why Apple iTunes doesn't provide easy facilities for dragging and dropping libraries is because this is the way that large amounts of music can be transferred from computer to computer. At least on the Mac, there are all sorts of transfer restrictions and permissions that must be set.

For downloading, playing and uploading music from a Mac to an ipod, there is no software better. It works intuitively and without fuss. However, the moment you start move big chunks of music from computer to computer, the software is deliberately obtuse and inefficient. You should use third party software to do so.

I just keep all my valuable files, movies, music and pictures on a seperate 120gb hard drive with partitions for each file type, that I can remove and put in any computer. That way when I reload or have a hd failure I still have my valuable files on a hd. I ALSO have these same files on dvd so if THAT drive should fail, all is not lost.
I reload my computers at least once per year, so this facilitates speedy, seamless data transfer by just installing the drive in said computer.
When you install itunes, you can tell it which folders to include to make your database.
USE MULTIPLE PARTITIONS on your hard drives. Then if you screw up like you did here, it is a simple matter to fix it.
What you need to do now to retrieve your music is use this software to do a low-level read of your drive, locate and save the music and quit sweating the load.

it's FREE and easy to use, read the directions.

We have REPEATEDLY told people here that data is never lost on a computer, just 'hidden' from simple access. That is why cops take your computer when you are a baaad human, to reveal your despicable habits behind closed doors :D

No need to get yer panties in a wad. Go get the software, read and follow the directions, and NEXT time, use the built-in help files that ALL software has before doing something you are unsure of.

Yeah, my Sony mp3 Player has it's own purchase website, which it keeps wanting me to join. But I'm stubborn, I buy from iTunes because I already have an account. So I can't just import iTune songs into the mp3 player via the Sony Interface, they hate each other.

So I burn a CD from iTunes, then import it back into Sony's Interface, then burn to mp3 player from there.

I just hate giving out my info more than it's needed, and if I have to take a long way around to burn music onto my mp3 player, I'll do it.

What did you mean by drag and drop because as Scott said, iTunes does use that feature for many functions.

Not if there is one library from another computer on your ipod and you want to transfer that library to your other computer. If there is, don't tell me, I'll cry.

You can only do that type of transfer with music you've bought off iTunes and with computers that are authorized with that account to play them.

NoDecafPlz,
I had the same problem, and to solve it, I made a folder on the desktop, and that's where I download, or upload ALL music too. Then I Import/copy files to, whichever program I happen to be using at the time. Simplified the problem for me, big time.
