Dear colleagues and friends,

The Lasker Foundation in association with Public Agenda, a non-profit, non-partisan public policy research organization has launched an online "Issue Guide on Medical Research", which examines policy questions and public attitudes on many medical research topics. Among other current issues, the guide discusses stem cell, gene and cloning research, medical patent and funding debates.

The guide also includes public polling data. An example from the data is that two-thirds of Americans say they support stem cell research and federal funding of it, but the wording of the question can dramatically affect polling results. If the survey question cites the "destruction" of "live embryos" more than two-thirds answer they oppose this type of research. But most people answer affirmatively if the question refers to "extra" embryos from fertility treatments that will be either "destroyed" or "donated for disease research."

This complete issue guide is freely accessible at www.laskerfoundation.org (http://www.laskerfoundation.org) and at http://www.publicagenda.org/issues/lasker_frontdoor.cfm?issue_type=medical_r .
As always, we would welcome your comments.

Best wishes,
